Hi! I'm a landscape photographer focused on capturing fleeting moments of light, atmosphere, and the grandeur of the natural world. From the mountain west and desert southwest to global destinations as far away as Patagonia and New Zealand, I prefer to explore the landscape alone, immersing myself in solo camping and hiking to explore and find new images, both grand and intimate. My goal with every image is to transport the viewer, to let them walk in my (wet) boots, to give them the feeling of being there in that moment.
I attended Texas A&M to study computer science, but left university after three years to attend art school where I studied graphic design. In 1998, I founded a communication, persuasion, and graphic design company that has grown to serve clients nationally and internationally. As part of that business, I learned documentary and studio photography. As an avid outdoorsman, it was only natural that I would carry my camera into the landscape. Like so many of you, I fell in love with the idea of capturing natures magnificence and sharing it with others.
For more than 30 years, I have helped my clients teach complex subject matter to jurors in the courtroom. Now, I am transitioning from the world of corporate consulting and persuasion to the smaller, more intimate, more personal process of guiding and teaching both new and experienced photographers on their own personal, creative journey. I currently teach classes on photographic composition and post processing. I also lead small groups in photographic workshops to The Great Sand Dunes National Park and back-country locations in the San Juan mountains of Colorado.
I am inspired by the Hudson River School of landscape painters: Cole, Church, and Bierstadt. They created masterpieces in oil based on sketches of what they saw and a memory of how they felt. I try to do the same – photographing a scene and then processing that image to communicate both the beauty and grandeur as well as how I felt in that moment.
I enjoy being in the woods, mountains, deserts, and grasslands of the American West as well as exploring the wild regions of South America, Europe, and New Zealand. These landscapes, and the people who live there, intrigue and inspire me to explore and capture new images.
I love helping others reach their goals, teaching them the technical and practical aspects of photography and image processing while mentoring them in their artistic growth.
